Any negative phrase, if repeatedly thought, will be believed. "I'll never lose thirty pounds, who am I kidding?"
This kind of repeated chatter creates something called a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Sociologist Robert K. Merton reasons that any prediction, not necessarily based on fact, which is believed by the predictor (you), may eventually end up as the truth simply because he or she actually believed it would happen.
You don't want to set yourself up for failure, so be very careful what you say to yourself.
